Residents, passers-by and pancake enthusiasts are encouraged to come down and show their support whilst teams race up and down Stoney Street in a fast and furious pancake flipping relay. Borough Market traders will join in the festivities with Khanom Krok serving their unique take on the batter-based classic and Change Please serving refreshments. The event is a fundraiser for local charity Paintings in Hospitals. Info & map: http://www.London-SE1.co.uk/whatson/event/18493 FLIPPING MARVELLOUS PANCAKE RACE Tuesday 28 February 12.30pm-2pm at The Scoop at More London, More London Riverside Has your organisation got three people who are skilled in Hunting, Gathering and Flipping? Enter the London Bridge City Pancake Race and batter the opposition in a triathlon of treasure hunt, race and flip-off. This event is now in its 5th year and much MUCH bigger. To take part you need a team of three people able to make a donation of 250 per team towards London Bubble's Young Theatre Makers programme. For further details call 020 72374434 or email [email protected] Info & map: http://www.London-SE1.co.uk/whatson/event/18494 BOROUGH AND BANKSIDE MARDI GRAS Tuesday 28 February Parade 1pm from Price's Street (next to Hilton) Party from 3.30pm in Great Suffolk Street at Great Suffolk Street Shopping Parade; free Community groups have been preparing for Borough and Bankside's first Mardi Gras parade, which will take place on Shrove Tuesday. Starting in Price's Street at 1pm, decorated bicycles will provide a moving Mardi Gras spectacle that go to pancake parties at Stones End Day Centre and Cariad Cafe at Blackfriars Settlement. The bikes will visit Tate Modern before returning to Great Suffolk Street. A free outdoor Pancake Party will complete the event, with children invited to come after school from 3.30pm to 5.30pm for pancake flipping contests, fresh pancakes, carnival crafts, live music and a chance to ride the Mardi Gras bikes. The party will take place next to The Fruit Tree on Great Suffolk Street. The colourful banners, flags and decorations for the parade have been made at Age UK Southwark, Charles Dickens Primary School and at Blackfriars Settlement Mental Health Arts Group and Older People's Sewing Group. The project has been led by the organisers of SE1's annual Mint Street Music Festival. The parade will be led by accessible cycling charity Wheels for Wellbeing and will include disabled-accessible bikes. Volunteers from local businesses will be taking part and more volunteers are welcome - disabled and able-bodied cyclists can participate. PUBLIC MEETING Tuesday 28 February 7pm at Upper Level (above Tesco), Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre This public meeting has been organised by the Elephant Amenity Network's 35% Campaign to discuss the redevelopment of the shopping centre Info & map: http://www.London-SE1.co.uk/whatson/event/18599 ST DAVID'S DAY SPECIAL Wednesday 1 March 12.30pm-2pm at Market Hall, Borough Market; free To celebrate the patron saint of Wales, Welsh cook, cookery school teacher, broadcaster and mother of five Lisa Fearn will be taking the helm of Borough Market's demo kitchen for a one off Welsh special. Using seasonal ingredients from the market and featuring some delicious Welsh produce too, Lisa will be preparing three recipes which you can create at home. There will be a musical interlude by the Welsh male choir Eschoir singing some well-known Welsh classics. The demo will run in two parts with a half an hour break for the choral performance.
