Want to talk to people, share your knowledge or gain new skills? Whether providing a warm welcome at the entrances or helping visitors to explore the artwork in the displays, volunteers can transform a visit into something really special. Volunteering at Tate is fun, youíll spend time in a really great place and youíll learn lots. Itís easy to fit in to your life - just a few hours a month. Tate has a variety of roles, all focused on helping visitors to get the most from the galleries. Perhaps you are new to art or maybe you have been visiting Tate for years. The gallery welcomes all enquiries, no matter what your background or experience. At the Taster Session the Tate Team will introduce you to the gallery and the current volunteer opportunities as Visitor Host Volunteer, Family Visitor Host, Tate Exchanger and Tate Guide. In the first week, Guy will explore the Roman settlement, the medieval priory and the founding of St Thomas' Hospital. Hear of a royal wedding, race riots and the brothels of Bankside. The Inns of the Borough and the pilgrimage trade that fuelled them will be examined. Finally this week's session will end on the closure of the Priory.
