TWISTS & TRANSFORMATIONS WALK: DICKENS' BOROUGH
Tuesday 22 November
5pm-6.45pm; starts John Harvard Library, 211 Borough High
Street; free
This walk through the streets of the Borough follows the
'Twists and Transformations' of Dickens's early childhood,
revisiting early Victorian London south of the river. The
walk starts by passing through the site of the Marshalsea
Prison and takes you back up to the Thames near old London
Bridge. A CoolTan Arts event.

CANDLELIT SOUTHWARK CATHEDRAL TOUR
Wednesday 23 November
6.30pm-7.30pm  at Southwark Cathedral,  London Bridge; �10,

Come and explore over 900 years of history on this candlelit
tour of Southwark Cathedral. Discover the stories of the
priory of St Mary Overy and the famous London hospital
founded on this site. Learn how the contemporaries of
Shakespeare served the church and worked in the theatre.
Uncover how the industrial age nearly caused the demolition
of London's oldest gothic building. This candlelit tour will
be led by one of Southwark Cathedral's knowledgeable guides
and will last an hour.

Participants can drop-in for half an hour of making and then
take the results away with them. Benefit include working

Emma Sweeney presents a lively illustrated history of one of
the beacons of our culture: free public libraries. Come
along to hear more about the story of the establishment of
Southwark's libraries. jThe event will take place in the
Southwark Local History Library at the back of the building.

takes place after library opening hours latecomers may not
be admitted.

FOLLOW THE PHOENIX - BLACKFRIARS STORIES
Friday 25 November
Starts 3.30pm from Friars Primary School, Webber Street
After the mechanical elephant in 2014 and Jack Frost in
2015, this year Blackfriars Stories brings you the fire
breathing phoenix bird... Join in the procession at 3.30pm
from Friars Primary School, Webber Street on a quest to find
clues about the historical figures that lived, worked or
walked around the streets of Blackfriars. Meet the Phoenix
at Peabody Estate Blackfriars Road from 4.30pm for festive
refreshments. Then Follow the Phoenix at 5.30pm to Mint
Street Park for a fire finale.
