POLYPHONY DOWN THE PUB CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
Monday 15 December
7pm at The Horse & Stables, 122-124 Westminster Bridge Road;

Experimental singing/socialising event - a pub 'jam' session
but instead of playing folk music or jazz, people turn up to
sing a cappella masterpieces from the 16th century by
Palestrina, Victoria and others. No audition, no rehearsal,
no performance; just people in a pub making music. Anyone
who can read music and wants to take part should download
the sheet music from Facebook; anyone who can't read music
is still welcome to come along and listen.

1000 KISSES

This Christmas Borough Market is inviting shoppers to pucker
up in a bid to generate enough energy to switch on its
Christmas lights - and at the same time set a world record.
To mark its 1,000th Christmas in Southwark, Borough Market
is attempting 1,000 simultaneous kisses under a 300 sq ft
ceiling of individually tied bunches of mistletoe - one for
every person taking part. Visitors will be entertained with a medley of
Christmas carols sung by the Choir of Royal Holloway,
University of London.

SEVEN STREETS, TWO MARKETS, AND A WEDDING

A feature-length programme of archive films curated by
London's Screen Archives, this is a collection of 10 rare
films offering glimpses of lost London from 1930 to 1980.
Largely unseen for generations, these snapshots of London
life provide a unique insight into the continuities and
changes in the capital across the 20th century. Viewers will
travel from Brent to Southwark via Hackney and Hampstead
Heath in this heritage showcase. Highlights include the
original Lambeth Walk, dray horses in '60s Marylebone and an
East End parade.

LET'S TALK ABOUT BANTER VS HARASSMENT

How harmless is banter? When does banter become harassment?
How seriously do we take the issue? What can be done to
create a culture where women feel safe on a night out?
Comedian Sara Pascoe is set to take part in a dynamic
discussion about �banter� vs harassment alongside writer and
co-founder of blog The Vagenda Rhiannon Lucy Cosslett,
London Evening Standard journalist Rosamund Urwin, founder
of website TruLad Chris Steward, Susuana Antubam NUS Women's
Officer and DJ Shalaah Tahira. The event is organised by
Southwark Council to mark the launch of its new Women�s
Safety Charter - a voluntary scheme for bars and clubs
across the borough to help ensure women can enjoy a night
out without fear of harassment or intimidation. The council
has also partnered with Hollaback, an organisation against
street harassment, to help deliver training to venue staff
on how best to deal with the issue.

COOLTAN ARTS LARGACTYL SHUFFLE: MUSICAL WALK
Saturday 20 December
11.45am-4pm  at Tate Modern,  Bankside; free
CoolTan Arts Largactyl Shuffle is a guided, stigma-busting
cultural walk, designed to encourage mental and physical
wellbeing, through art, exercise, humour and history. This
walk from Bankside to Bermondsey will include stops en route
for short talks about local musicians, both past and
present, with close connections to the area. Find out about
about the ancient Christmas tradition of wassailing, and
sing some carols and festive songs along the way. The walk
leaders wear orange high-viz vests and rucksacks. Call

raise funds for a new grand piano in St Mary Magdalen
church. A special festive concert including music for
sackbut from the 1600s and Rimsky-Korsakov�s glittering
Trombone Concerto. Plus some favourite Christmas carols.
