A series of language courses will be running from Tuesday 28
January 2014 to Thursday April 3 for ten weeks. The Tuesday
classes will be held  near Barbican London EC1 and the
Thursday classes at More London (near London Bridge) London
SE1. 

Courses are open to beginners, intermediate and advanced
speakers of French, Spanish and Italian as well as beginner
and intermediate students of Portuguese and German.

The price is �130 for returning students and �160 for new
students. 

Students come from City firms including Norton Rose,
Addleshaw Goddards, Linklaters, PricewaterhouseCoopers, the
Bank of England and Ernst and Young. -

HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY
Monday 27 January
Refreshments at Amigo Hall, Lambeth Road 9.30am; indoor
event 10am; wreath-laying 11am at Soviet War Memorial,
Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park
The Mayor of Southwark, Cllr Abdul Mohamed, hosts one of
London's largest gatherings to remember the Holocaust and
genocides since. Speakers: Rt Hon Margaret Hodge MP (chair
of the Public Accounts Committee) and Susan Pollack,
Holocaust survivor. The event will be attended by civic and
diplomatic dignitaries and members of the public are most
welcome to attend. Please arrive before 10am for the indoor
ceremony at the Amigo Hall (St George's Cathedral, Lambeth
Road). After the speeches, the focus will move to Geraldine
Mary Harmsworth Park for wreath-laying at the Holocaust
memorial tree and Soviet War Memorial.

HOPTON'S ALMSHOUSES ON THE GREAT INTERIOR DESIGN CHALLENGE
Monday 27 January
7pm on BBC Two
It's the sixth of the eight heats as three new designers
battle it out for a place in the quarter-final. This time
the amateurs are creating interiors for three beautiful
Georgian almshouses in Hopton Street, Bankside. They will
have 48 hours, �1000 and the help of a builder to turn three
sitting rooms into modern designs fit for the inhabitants of
these 250-year-old homes.

SOUTHWARK COMMONS

People's Republic of Southwark is, throughout 2014, running
a series of fortnightly events, to create real - rather than
just virtual - spaces for learning from each other. The
events will take place every other Wednesday and will be a
mix of reading group meetings, film screenings and
discussions on a range of topics. The first event is a
screening of part 1 of the Artist Taxi Driver's film 'This
is not a recession, it's a robbery', in which he talks to a
variety of people, from MPs to radical activists, about
current issues.

In early 2013, Stephen Greenhalgh, Deputy Mayor for Policing
and Crime, visited every London borough to talk to Londoners
about the Mayor's draft Police and Crime Plan. A year on,
the Deputy Mayor and senior police officers are revisiting
each borough to talk about local policing, how they have
been putting the plan into practice and to answer questions.

Make someone's day by welcoming them to the gallery and
chatting to them about what's on. Volunteering at Tate is
fun, you'll spend time in a really great place and you'll
learn lots. It's easy to fit in to your life - just a few
hours a month. The gallery welcomes all enquiries, no matter
what your background or experience - and you don't need to
know about art! At the taster session the Tate team will
introduce you to the gallery and role of the Visitor Host
Volunteer - welcoming visitors to the gallery, based at the
