NAMING MONSTERS: HANNAH EATON

8pm at The Old King's Head, Kings Head Yard, 45-49 Borough
High Street; 2.50 (conc 1.50)
Hannah Eaton investigates the psychological and social
functions of migratory legends and creepy tales. She
explores themes and sources as diverse as the medieval story
of the Green Children of Woolpit, therapeutic writing in a
Brighton primary school, and the 1979 'Misty' annual. Hannah
Eaton is the author of the graphic novel, "Naming Monsters'.
She offers a poetic explanation of how existing folkloric
bogeys could be used to talk about feelings that are
otherwise impossible to articulate or are unspeakable. She
will also be showing some folklore she made up herself, and
asking whether it is OK to take the oral tradition into your
own hands!

GUIDED BY SONG: A MUSICAL WALK FROM BOROUGH TO BERMONDSEY IN
AID OF THE SALTER STATUES CAMPAIGN
Saturday 10 August
7pm at Cross Bones Graveyard, Redcross Way; 3 (email
[email protected] to book)
Join Nigel of Bermondsey on a guided walk from Borough to
Bermondsey with musical performances performed at the
locations that inspired them. The walk ends at the Angel pub
on the riverside. The view from the pub would be even finer
if the statue of Dr Alfred Salter was still on the bench
next door. After the statue was stolen in November 2011, a
group of local people formed a campaign to raise funds for
new statues of Dr Salter and his wife, Ada. All proceeds
from this walk will go to the Salter Statues Campaign. Nigel
of Bermondsey is a South London singer-songwriter,
storyteller and folklorist. He sings songs about Bermondsey,
Rotherhithe, Walworth, Wapping, Bloomsbury, the Royal Parks,
London under and over.
