Monday 2 July
7pm at Amigo Hall, St George's Cathedral,  Lambeth Road
First meeting of the newly merged community council for
Cathedrals, Chaucer, East Walworth, Faraday and Newington
wards. The meeting is an Elephant & Castle regeneration
special, including updates on the Heygate Estate
redevelopment, plans for the leisure centre site and news of
the new Elephant & Castle community fund. A chance to put

INDEPENDENTS' DAY: SUPPORT LOCAL TRADERS IN WATERLOO QUARTER
Wednesday 4 July
Waterloo workers and residents will be encouraged to support
their local independent shops from 4 July. Shopkeepers in
Waterloo have signed up to the Independents' Day campaign -
a national initiative which aims to support independent
businesses. This year's national campaign was launched in
Waterloo in February with representatives from David
Fullerton, FloraMay, The Toolshop, South Bank Cards,
Greensmiths, Waterloo Body Station, Twice The Siren, Ian
Allan Bookshop, I Knit London, What The Butler Wore and
Radio Days chosen as faces for the promotion. This year,
Waterloo Quarter BID has worked with retailers to organise a
range of events and initiatives, including an appearance by
the Dulux Dog in Lower Marsh.

2012 OLYMPICS: SOUTHWARK WELCOME HOST TRAINING

frontline staff, residents, and volunteers likely to come

the visitor experience is warm and welcoming.

present the latest proposals There will also be a screening
of a short film by Jack Thurston about the many activities

SHARD INAUGURATION LIGHT AND LASER SHOW
Thursday 5 July
10.15pm at The Shard, London Bridge Street; free
Central London will be lit up by a spectacular light and
laser show to mark the formal inauguration of Europe's
tallest building, The Shard. A combination of 12 lasers and
30 searchlights will light up the night sky over the capital
at approximately 10.15pm in a display that will also be
streamed live on The Shard's website and Facebook pages to
mark the building's external completion.

LONDON GAY MEN'S CHORUS CELEBRATES WORLD PRIDE

charity partner for the concert is Kaleidoscope who work
around the world to promote diversity and respect for all

INTERNATIONAL BRIGADES COMMEMORATION AT JUBILEE GARDENS
Saturday 7 July
12.30pm-2pm  at Jubilee Gardens,  Belvedere Road
Annual International Brigade Memorial Trust commemoration
for the Spanish Civil War republican volunteers from Britain
and Ireland. Music, speeches and wreath-laying. The memorial
has been in Jubilee Gardens since 1985. Line-up includes
folk musician Ewan McLennan, performance poet Francesca
Beard, singer-songwriter Paco Marin and folk duo Na-Mara.
