ONE BLACKFRIARS PUBLIC EXHIBITION: LATEST SKYSCRAPER PLANS
Monday 23 January
5pm-8pm at London Nautical School, 61 Stamford Street
The One Blackfriars development site has recently been
acquired by St George, part of the Berkeley Group. The new
owners are seeking to refine the consented development
proposals. The alterations will not change the external
appearance but will be to the internal use of the buildings.
The proposed hotel will be relocated to the Rennie Street
building and the main tower will be completely residential.
Find out more and meet the architects at this public
exhibition. The proposed alterations include the removal of
the sky deck viewing gallery which had been intended for the
top of the tower.

WATERLOO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT GROUP GENERAL MEETING

SOUTHWARK COUNCIL ASSEMBLY: ENVIRONMENT THEME
Wednesday 25 January
7pm (informal session from 6pm) at Walworth Academy,
Shorncliffe Road
Southwark's next Council Assembly (a meeting of the
borough's 63 councillors) will include a themed debate on
the environment. Come to the assembly at 6pm for the
hour-long informal session before the main meeting. This
will include promotion of various environmental messages.
Listen to councillors debating the theme during the main
meeting from 7pm. The SE1 website will tweet updates at
@councilassembly on the night.

ANTIGONE REMIXED

With the Olympics around the corner, Drama and Theatre
Studies students at London South Bank University have got
Greek fever and are presenting an innovative new production
of the ancient Greek text Antigone. The play, based on
Antigone by Sophocles, is an age-old story of power, loyalty
and love, and is the result of the hard work of a team of 40
LSBU drama and theatre studies students. It will be directed
by professional director Rebecca Manson-Jones.

* Hear about the Imperial War Museum's redevelopment plans
which will transform the museum for 2014.

HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY: SPEAKUP, SPEAKOUT

Southwark Council marks Holocaust Memorial Day with a
programme of music, poetry, testimony, and film.
Refreshments from 10am and the main programme will begin at
10.30am. Holocaust survivor Vera Schaufeld will recall her
experience on one of the Kindertransports that saw over
10,000 Jewish children saved from Nazi persecution and taken
to safety in the United Kingdom. Several Southwark secondary
schools will take part, including a specially-commissioned
reflection in dance  by students of Notre Dame RC Girls'
School. The indoor programme will be followed by a
wreath-laying ceremony at the Holocaust Memorial Tree and
Soviet War Memorial in Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park.

MEET MARK MURPHY: BBC RADIO 3 RECORDING

During the two-hour event, which will be recorded and
broadcast at a later date on BBC Radio 3's Jazz Line Up
programme, Claire Martin OBE will interview the revered
artist about his celebrated 70-year career as an
international jazz singer. An expert panel made up of some
of the most respected names in British jazz, including Dame
Cleo Laine, Ian Shaw, Norma Winstone and Peter Churchill,
will be on hand to discuss Murphy's work, methods and career
highlights. Murphy will also be giving a special performance
of a selection of songs from his incredible repertoire,
accompanied by jazz pianist George Mesterhazy, and will be
sharing some of his top tips for budding jazz singers.
