LONDON BRIDGE STATION REDEVELOPMENT EXHIBITION
Thursday 15 to Saturday 17 September
Thu & Fri 8am-7pm; Sat 8am-2pm at London Bridge Station
Network Rail is completely transforming London Bridge
station. It will be a bigger, better, more spacious station,
with a new concourse underneath the platforms and an eye
catching roof-scape, made up of undulating canopies. But
there will also be the loss of some historic buildings and
local businesses and cultural organisations like Southwark
Playhouse will be displaced. The exhibition will include
updated images, artist's impressions and a model of the new
station.

RIVERSIDE ACCESSIBILITY UPDATE: SEE THAMES PATH PLANS
Thursday 15 September
4pm-8pm at Bankside Community Space, 18 Great Guildford
Street
The Greater London Authority has obtained �4 million funding
to upgrade sections of the Thames Path in Southwark and
Lambeth to improve accessibility in the run up to next
year's Olympic and Paralympics. Works to the Thames Path
will be taking place over the winter months of 2011 and are
due to be completed by April 2012. The purpose of this
session is to give as much information as possible to
businesses and residents to help them understand what the
level of disruption is likely to be and how the impacts of
the works will be mitigated.

ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS: SEE THE PLAY FOR FREE ON BIG SCREEN
Thursday 15 September
7pm at Theatre Square, National Theatre,  South Bank; free
Thursday is the NT Live broadcast of the show at cinemas
around the country and they're putting up a big screen in
the square outside the theatre. Many of the London cinemas
are already sold out, and queues for day seats at the
National itself are starting at 5.30am. On Thursday next
week you can just turn up, grab some Astroturf space and
watch the show live. The cast will do the curtain call
outside for the crowd and there'll be dancing and music from
the show before the performance.

URBAN HERB GROUP
From Thursday 15 September

Mala Bissoon worked with Living Medicine at the Urban Physic
Garden this summer, running tours and workshops. A number of
participants were interested in learning more, so in
response to that she is starting the Urban Herb Group.
Meetings will take place on Hercules Road and will cover
activities such as botany, plant identification,
wildcrafting, materia medica, making preparations, learning
about various health problems and history of medicine.

GREAT RIVER RACE ON THE THAMES
Saturday 17 September
Competitors passing through the City approx 2.15pm-3.40pm
Annual 22-mile race on the Thames from Greenwich to Richmond
featuring approximately 300 craft. Any traditional-style,
coxed boat, propelled by a minimum of four oars or paddles,
without sliding seats or riggers, may take part. Each boat
is computer-handicapped according to its potential
performance, so everyone has an equal chance in this
'slowest away first, fastest last' handicap race. Every year
brings a new and unusual boat to test the handicappers. This
year's official charity is MediCinema which provides cinemas
in hospitals around the UK. There will be disruption to
Thames Clippers boat services whilst the race is under way.

JAPAN MATSURI 2011
Sunday 18 September
10am-8pm at County Hall, Riverside Building, County Hall,
Belvedere Road; free
This annual event brings the Japanese community and
Londoners together to enjoy Japanese food, lively music,
exotic dance and much more. The event will also reflect on
the devastating Tsunami which struck Japan on 11 March.
There will be fundraisers, photographic exhibitions and many
other events and activities to support survivors. Japanese
ambassador Keiichi Hayashi will formally open the day at
11am. This year there will be live performances on the three
stages, family activities, a much expanded food market and
stall area, as well as an exhibition area, providing day
long entertainment and interest for all the family.

THE HIP HOP SHAKESPEARE COMPANY: LIVE ON THE RIVERSIDE STAGE

An afternoon of performances curated by The Hip Hop
Shakespeare Company, the music production group founded by
MOBO-award winning hip hop artist Akala Daley. Expect lots

BANKSIDE RESIDENTS' FORUM
Monday 19 September
6.30pm at Bankside Community Space, 18 Great Guildford
Street
Autumn open forum evening to catch up on latest
developments. David Stothard from the City of London
Corporation will speak about the London River Park planning
application. There will also be a presentation on the plans
to spruce up Great Suffolk Street by Graeme Sutherland of
Adams and Sutherland Architects. Plus updates on Bankside's
neighbourhood plan, the pre-Olympics improvements to the
riversides walkway and other major local developments.
