WATERLOO BY MAPLIGHT: GUIDED WALK WITH KEN TITMUSS

Evening walk with old maps led by Ken Titmuss. Look beyond
the bridge and round the most perplexing railway station in
London that once upon a time had a platform for the dead.
Follow a trail of topographical street names, unremarkable
buildings with remarkable stories and call up the memory of
local worthies including Emma Cons, John Rennie and the
Roupell family scandal. In the last 60 years the riverside
wharves have been transformed into the capital's cultural
quarter, yet the other three quarters of this
quintessentially London neighbourhood has a tale or two to
tell.

LONDON SOUTH BANK UNIVERSITY STUDENT CENTRE EXHIBITION
Wednesday 27 July
3pm-7pm at London South Bank University, 103 Borough Road
London South Bank University is holding a public exhibition
of its plans to develop a student centre building for all
non academic student advice in the space beneath the tower
block on the corner of Borough Road and Southwark Bridge
Road. The exhibition will be held in the canteen area on the
first floor.

WATERLOO TASTE SENSATIONS: PART 3

ON THE BENCH & DANCES FOR WOLVES - EDINBURGH PREVIEWS

Class Stage Productions present a double-bill of new plays
by Kirsty Eyre before their Edinburgh Festival run. On the
Bench is a a tongue-in-cheek glimpse behind the Premiership
football scenes - an all-female cast tackle five alpha male
characters whose life stories are told from the substitutes�
bench. Dances for Wolves is an all-female comedy show about
five strippers revealing their thoughts, stories and tricks
of the trade while they compete to take home a million
pounds - a comedy punctuated by pastiches, parodies and
popcorn. The shows will also be previewed at Southwark
Playhouse on Sunday 31 July at 3pm.

MUSIC NIGHT WITH THE STAGE DOOR

Waterloo's The Stage Door pub hosts a live music night.
Enjoy performances from two bands and a barbeque with free

MINT STREET ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND 40TH BIRTHDAY
Friday 29 July
12pm-5pm  at Mint Street Adventure Playground, Mint Street
Park,  Southwark Bridge Road; free
Fun family event to celebrate four decades of the Mint
Street Adventure Playground The event will include a Mint
Street memory wall, sports taster sessions for local kids,
gardening activities for children, face painting, music and
free food and drink from a wide range of cultures, fun
activities including trampoline bungies, large inflatables
and fairground rides. There will also be a great raffle
featuring prizes from Tate Modern, IPC Media, the National
Theatre and other local businesses.

HOW FAR CAN WE REACH? ART FESTIVAL AT TOPOLSKI CENTURY

This three-day art festival is inspired by Feliks Topolski
who dedicated his life's work to a journey capturing major
moments of 20th century and includes artists in a variety of
mediums from visual art to music, performance, sculpture,
video and theatre. Following the same longing for
exploration, and desire to manifest the world we share and
beyond, the participating artists are exploring the meaning
of 'journey' and its different meanings, multiple
expressions and varying facets of potential, from those deep
within ourselves to that which identifies us in relation to

Cansever, Bethany Milam, Chris Ivory, Chris King, Claud &

THE ROSE REVEALED
Saturday 30 to Sunday 31 July
10am-5pm at Rose Theatre Exhibition, 56 Park Street; free
Visit the archaeological site of the first Elizabethan
theatre on Bankside where Shakespeare learnt his craft.
Guided tours. Come and see plans for the project to finally
fully dig and display the site.

OLD SOUTHWARK IN THE BLITZ GUIDED WALK WITH NEIL BRIGHT
Saturday 30 July
Meet 11am by the wooden cross in southern churchyard at
Southwark Cathedral,  London Bridge; �8
Neil Bright leads a walk showing how this historic old
borough endured various stages of the Blitz between 1940 and
1945. Examine how Southwark also suffered on the infamous
night of 29 December 1940 along with the City, plus a
horrendous V1 strike. Neil will show you the remaining
evidence of the war years and recount many incidents and
stories. Finishes outside the Imperial War Museum approx
1.45pm.

MORRICONE IN LOVE

A fusion of live music and cinema. F'eatre explore the
haunting wordless female vocal and the psychedelic lounge
trip of Ennio Morricone's cult Italian film scores of
1968-72. F'eatre are the extraordinarily talented Fiona
Staniland (producer, chanteuse), Nick Ramm (musical
arrangements, keyboards), Alex Keen (basses) Jon Scott
(drums), Jon Gingell (guitars) and Gerry Hunt (clarinet,
flute, sax, trumpet). After the Spaghetti came the Desert!
Expect a triptastic mix of hypnotic jazz rhythms,bossa
beats, soaring soprano and avant garde expressionism - all
to a stunning backdrop of original film visuals.

TALES FROM THE RIVERBANK GUIDED WALK
Sunday 31 July
11am at Bermondsey Underground Station,  Jamaica Road; �5
Guided walk along the Thames Path led by Aly Mir. Your guide
will briefly introduce many of the sites along the way
including Tower Bridge, City Hall, HMS Belfast, the Golden
Hinde replica, Shakespeare's Globe, Tate Modern and the
London Eye. There's no need to book, just turn up and pay
the guide on the day. He'll be wearing a green cap.
