SOUTHWARK MYSTERIES COMMUNITY CAST INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOPS
Monday 22 & Wednesday 24 February
Mon & Wed 6pm-9pm at Edric Hall, London South Bank
University, 103 Borough Road; free
Inspired by the medieval mystery plays, this epic play by
John Constable is rooted in the history of Bankside. Mixing
Bible stories with local folklore and contemporary humour,
it presents a dramatic vision of Christ as the friend of the
outcast. The Southwark Mysteries has been performed in full
only once before, to a capacity audience in Shakespeare's
Globe and Southwark Cathedral ten years ago. A decade on,
the April 2010 production features professional actors
working with an adult community cast and three local
schools. There will also be celebrity cameo appearances. Be
part of The Southwark Mysteries community cast or help
with costumes or crewing. To be in the cast, you have to be
at one or both of this week's workshops. To book your place
email: [email protected] All cast will
rehearse one (or two) evenings per week for 7 weeks leading
up to the shows. Priority will be given to people who live,
work, study, or have a particular interest in Southwark, AND
can commit to the 7 weeks.
