COMMUNITY SAFETY EVENING WITH GRACE IDOWU AT GLOBE ACADEMY
Tuesday 26 January
4.30pm-6.30pm  at Globe Academy, Harper Road; free
The evening will provide a platform for parents, carers and
local residents to discuss their concerns regarding the
safety of young people in the local area with experts. Grace
Idowu, the mother of the late David Idowu who was killed at
Tabard Gardens in 2008, will be in attendance to share some
of her experiences and advice.

HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY ACT OF REMEMBRANCE
Wednesday 27 January
10.30am for 11am at Soviet War Memorial, Geraldine Mary
Harmsworth Park,  Lambeth Road
The Mayor of Southwark, diplomats from the embassies of the
CIS countries, veterans and supporters of the Soviet War
Memorial will be present at this act of remembrance and
wreath-laying ceremony.

well as advisors from local GP surgeries, for a variety of
activities including cooking demonstrations, blind fruit
tasting, 'Five A Day' quizzes and lots more.

FREE RUSH HOUR CONCERT WITH SOUTHBANK SINFONIA IN WATERLOO
Thursday 28 January
6pm at St John's Waterloo,  Waterloo Road; free
Free concert by young musicians from Southbank Sinfonia.
Includes Brahms Double Concerto for violin and cello with
guest soloists Tamsin Waley-Cohen (violin) and Gemma
Rosefield (cello). Conducted by SbS's Music Director Simon
Over, the evening's programme also includes Haydn Symphony

aimed at young people, it'll be a chance to meet and find
out about potential employers such as the fire or ambulance

GUIDED TOURS OF ST MARY MAGDALEN CHURCH, BERMONDSEY STREET
Saturday 30 January
10.45am at St Mary Magdalen,  Bermondsey Street; Suggested
donation �5
St Mary Magdalen Church, Bermondsey Street, is opening its
doors again for guided tours of the church from 10.45am.
This is a fascinating historic church with many interesting
features and a rich history. Over 320 years old, with a
mediaeval tower, it is the oldest building in Bermondsey.
There will be two separate main tours of the ground and
first floors, commencing at 11am and 12.30pm, for a
suggested donation of �5 per person. For a small number
there will also be the possibility of a 30 minute tour
around the higher tower and the roof space, for an
additional donation. Numbers for the tower/roof are strictly
limited so you are advised to book in advance (see website)
if you wish to do this - first come, first served. See the

Passing two bridges, two palaces and two secret services,
the walk will reveal many other fascinating facts. Discover
Thomas Cubitt's development of Pimlico; MI6 and Doulton
Ceramics on the Albert Embankment; the Tate Gallery and what
was Millbank Prison; the Flood of 1928; MI5; three Lambeth
Bridges; the Horseferry and Lambeth Palace; St Thomas'
Hospital; the Palace of Westminster, the 'Great Stink' and
Westminster Bridge - finishing outside Portcullis House with
the view to St Paul's. Part of Walk London's Winter Wanders

Chaucer Safer Neighbourhood Team is holding two days of
Cycle Tagging, Property Marking and Police Surgeries. Come
and meet the team, talk to officers about any concerns you
have or just say hello. The team will be offering free
tagging and registration of cycles with Immobitags. Plus
bring your iPod, xBox, PSP, mobile phone and they'll show
you how to use your free Smartwater kit to mark your other
valuables at home.
