NEW YEAR FIREWORKS AT THE LONDON EYE
Thursday 31 December
Build-up from 11.50pm approx at London Eye, Riverside
Building, County Hall Westminster Bridge Road; free
Once again millions of people around the world will have
their eyes on the South Bank firework display around the
London Eye, courtesy of the Mayor of London. As a
cost-cutting measure this year's display will last 8 minutes
compared to 10 minutes in previous years. Renowned
pyrotechnician Christophe Berthonneau will light up the sky
around the London Eye to mark the start of 2010. Space is
severely limited along the Thames to watch the fireworks
live. For those able to able to get into the viewing areas,
there will be specially mixed soundtrack from BBC Radio 1 as
they wait for the fireworks at midnight. There will be all
night free travel on Tube, DLR, Tramlink on New Year's Eve.
24-hour bus routes will run as normal, but there will be
fewer bus services leaving central London from around 7pm to
3am because of road closures.

CHRISTMAS MESSIAH IN AID OF KIDS COMPANY
Saturday 2 January
7.30pm at Southwark Cathedral, London Bridge; �7.50 on the
door (under-12s free)
The performance of Handel's Christmas Messiah will be given
by a collection of five talented American choirs combining
over 100 voices, accompanied by a celebrated American youth
orchestra. The concert is directed by Eric Dale Knapp. The
concert is given in aid of Kids Company, a local charity
which helps provide practical, emotional and educational
support to vulnerable inner-city children and young people.

TWELFTH NIGHT FESTIVITIES ON BANKSIDE WITH THE LIONS PART
Sunday 3 January
1pm at Bankside Pier,  Bankside; free
An annual seasonal celebration held in the Bankside area. It
is a celebration of the New Year, mixing ancient seasonal
customs with contemporary festivity. It is free, accessible
to all and happens whatever the weather.
