THIS IS OUR MANOR: A WEEK OF EVENTS ON TABARD GARDENS ESTATE
Monday 10 to Saturday 15 August
Residents of the Tabard Gardens Estate have got together to
organise a week of practical and fun events to share skills.
The programme includes a visit by deputy Mayor of London
Richard Barnes AM who will be answering questions at Hankey
Hall on Tuesday night.

CATERPILLAR MUSIC AT BERMONDSEY VILLAGE HALL
Tuesday 11 August
Babies at 10am and Toddlers (around 24 months and above) at
10.50am at Bermondsey Village Hall,  Kirby Grove; �6 each
Caterpillar Music Rotherhithe and Dulwich has been running
weekly classes for more than 5 years. This August three
sessions are being held on Tuesdays at Bermondsey Village
Hall, bringing Caterpillar Music to SE1 for the first time.
Young children (aged 0-4 ) enjoy a weekly 40-minute session
of puppets, songs and actions, stories and fun Music making.
There is a different theme each week, for example The
Jungle, around which the songs and puppets are based. At
each class every child is given a percussion instrument and
puppet to use, even the youngest members (some babies are as

TOWER BLOCK MEETING - SAFETY AND SECURITY
Tuesday 11 August
6pm-8pm  at The Roundhouse,  Cardinal Bourne Street
Leathermarket JMB is holding an meeting to deal with safety
and security issues - particularly fire safety - for the
people who live in tower blocks on the JMB estates (Burwash
House, Nashe House, Peveril House, Simla House, Symington
House). Southwark's borough fire commander Andy Snazell will
be answering questions at the meeting.

BONES TELL TALES: LECTURE AT OLD OPERATING THEATRE
Tuesday 11 August
7pm-9pm at Old Operating Theatre, Museum and Herb Garret, 9a

This lecture aims to offer an overview of the role of
skeletal remains both in modern archaeological science and
in forensic investigation, and to stress their value for the
recording and identification of human skeletons and wildlife
crime.

FORESHORE FUN DAY NEAR GABRIEL'S WHARF
Thursday 13 August
11.30am-2.30pm  at Gabriel's Wharf,  Upper Ground; free
Join Thames21 as they reclaim the foreshore for a whole host
of fun and games suitable for all the family. As the tide
goes out, expect knotted hankies and deck chairs galore as
Thames21 offers up a series of traditional (and not so
traditional!) beach games on the sandy shore. This is not
one to be missed!

FRIGHT BIKE TWO - ONE EYE GREY PENNY DREADFUL EVENT

Join the bike ride of a lifetime past the former homes of
magicians, film stars and inventors. With ghosts on stilts
and angels in trees. Marvel at tales of dead dancers, giant
cats, lost canals and migrant beauties. It's Surrey with a
fright on top! It's Walworth, Peckham and Nunhead! If you
can't make it to the Southwark Needle for 6.30pm you can
also join the ride outside Newington Library in Walworth

THE BEAUTIFUL SOUTH: FLYTOWER FILMS AT NATIONAL THEATRE
Friday 14 August
10.15pm outside the National Theatre,  South Bank; free
Highlights from the BFI National Archive's extensive
collection of films from our own back yard are projected
onto the Flytower of the National Theatre Brief City
(Jacques Brunius, Maurice Harvey | 1952 | 19 mins) is a
joyous tribute to the creative vision of the 1951 Festival
of Britain, an event that easily combined pioneering design
with seaside postcard vulgarity. In We Are the Lambeth Boys
(Karel Reisz | 1959 | 52 mins) members of Alford House, a
youth club in Oval, share their hopes and frustrations. The
journey comes full circle in Project 1 (Yohan Forbes | 2009
| 7 mins), a skateboarder's odyssey from the Thames Barrier
to the South Bank.

FAMILY RE-ENACTMENT WEEKEND
Saturday 15 to Sunday 16 August
 at HMS Belfast, Morgans Lane, Tooley Street
Experience what life would have been like during battles at
sea when the 'Wavy Navy' return to mark 70 years since the
ship was commissioned into the Navy. During this weekend HMS
Belfast will be hosting a series of events to help bring
history to life for visitors. Visitors can interact with
re-enactors as they journey round the ship and learn about
war time experiences during this extraordinary time.
Visitors will have the chance to enjoy the traditions of
being on board a naval warship with 'Up Spirits', four-inch
gun firings and daily 'damage control' demonstrations.

FREE SPORTS WEEK FOR 8 TO 16-YEAR-OLDS
The Globe Academy is organising a free sports week from
17-21 August for 8 to 16-year-olds living on any of the
Leathermarket JMB estates. There are 50 free places
available for the week on a first-come, first-served basis.

YOUNG COMPANY AT SOUTHWARK PLAYHOUSE: AGES 14-20
Young Company is a theatre company run for young people by
young people. It is free to attend and meeting new members
on 12th and 26th August, from 2 until 5.
We are currently recruiting actors between the ages of 14
and 20, for our first production, East End Tales by Fin
Kennedy which will be produced at Southwark Playhouse in
November 2009.
