LORD MAYOR'S SHOW FIREWORKS DISPLAY
Saturday 8 November
5pm on the  River Thames; free
To mark the end of the Lord Mayor's Show in the City of
London and the beginning of a new mayoral year, the 681st
Lord Mayor - Ian Luder - will start a magnificent firework
display on the river Thames. The display is best viewed from
the South Bank between Waterloo Bridge and Blackfriars
Bridge It takes a team of eight pyrotechnicians two days to
set up more than half a tonne of giant fireworks, some of
which shoot over 600ft into the sky before exploding.

An evening of film, theatre, art and music in aid of The
Starlight Children's Charity. The screening room will be
running all afternoon presenting cult classics the Italian
Job, The Ipcress File, West Side Story, Tommy and Hair.
The Chamber Theatre Group will be performing 'The Amazing
Chaplino and his Violin of Renown,' a staged performance of
Chaplin and Keaton's classic sketch from 'Limelight' in the
County Hall chamber.

DOCTOR ATOMIC: THE MET - LIVE IN HD AT BFI IMAX

BFI IMAX brings live opera to the biggest screen in Britain
as it launches The Met: Live in HD in crystal-clear
high-definition. Ten productions in the Met's groundbreaking
series of live performance transmissions, beamed by
satellite from New York to cinemas worldwide, can be seen in
the heart of Waterloo. John Adams's contemporary masterpiece
explores a momentous episode of modern history: the creation
of the atomic bomb.

1918-2008: NINETY YEARS OF REMEMBRANCE
Saturday 8 November
10am-4pm  at Imperial War Museum,  Lambeth Road; free
Special family remembrance events as part of the BBC
Learning campaign to commemorate the ninetieth anniversary
of the Armistice. Throughout the day visitors can upload
personal First World War memorabilia to the BBC online
remembrance wall, make their own poppy of remembrance and
experience what life was like during the war years by
meeting characters from the past.

BOROUGH REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY
Saturday 8 November
10.50am at Borough War Memorial,  Borough High Street
Annual observance of the two minute silence in memory of the
dead of the two World Wars. St George the Martyr and
Precious Blood clergy lead short outdoor service at the
memorial outside the Slug & Lettuce in Borough High Street.
Followed by laying of wreaths by Borough organisations. All
welcome.

REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY
Sunday 9 November
11am at Imperial War Museum,  Lambeth Road; free
A remembrance ceremony will be held in the atrium with the
Last Post sounded by a sea cadet, followed by a two-minute
silence. There will then be a recital on the Western Front
violin.

ACT OF REMEMBRANCE AT SOVIET WAR MEMORIAL

12.30pm at Soviet War Memorial, Geraldine Mary Harmsworth
Park,  Lambeth Road
The Mayor of Southwark, representatives of CIS embassies,
veterans belonging to the Royal British Legion and other
organisations gather at the Soviet War Memorial next to the
Imperial War Museum for this annual act of remembrance and
wreath-laying.
