NEW MUSIC FROM JAPAN
Wednesday 24 September
6.30pm at Tsuru, 4 Canvey Street
Acclaimed Radio 3 DJ and presenter Paul Fisher will be
spinning the discs with a set of some of the most intriguing
Japanese ditties in his collection. Wataru Kousaka creates
ethno-musical soundscapes with traditional instrument the
Sanshin and electronic manipulation.

SOUTHERN EXPOSURE PRESENTS... PART OF ELEFEST

7.30pm at Unit 238, Upper Mall, Elephant & Castle Shopping
Centre,  Elephant and Castle; free
Southern Exposure commissioned six films in 2007 from over
60 applications. The films reflect the great diversity and
talent of the Lewisham, Lambeth and Southwark's filmmaking
communities. The films have been screened at Edinburgh
International Film Festival, have won the Audience Award at
ITV's Best of Boroughs Awards and have set the standard for
years to come.

DRIFT 08 - CONTEMPORARY ART ON THE THAMES
Friday 26 September to Sunday 19 October on the Thames
Southwark-based Illuminate Productions is creating the first
major river-based contemporary art exhibition in London. The
installations include the recreation of the old Blackfriars
Railway Bridge through laser light, mythical creatures
swimming in the river at twilight at London Bridge and the
sounds of a phantom beach echoing around the Millennium
Bridge. Bringing together a wide range of high-profile
international artists, galleries, collectors, and art
enthusiasts, DRIFT 08 will provide an exciting and inspiring
spectacle at the cutting edge of contemporary art.

QUICKSILVER 
Saturday 27 & Sunday 28 September
12 noon & 4pm at Southbank Centre, 1.30pm-2.30pm at Tate
Modern
Created by Director Lea Anderson with members of The
Cholmondeleys and The Featherstonehaughs, the cast will
create a series of unexpected, fleeting performances in
front of and weaving through the architecture of Tate Modern
and the Southbank Centre. A performance that ebbs and flows,
appears and disappears defining the gaps, edges and limits
of these iconic public spaces. Catch them at either venue or
as they travel between. This is a collaboration between
Southbank Centre, The Cholmondeleys and Tate Modern.

Cultural Quarter.

BILLY BRAGG'S BIG BUSK ON THE SOUTH BANK
Saturday 27 September
5pm at Festival Riverside, South Bank; free
Following on from his Big Busk event during the Royal
Festival Hall's re-opening celebrations in June 2007, Billy
Bragg returns to the South Bank as part of the Cultural
Olympiad Open Up Weekend and leads musicians of all ages and
abilities on a mass sing-along guitar busk of some of his
favourite songs. Guitarists are invited to bring their
instruments for an intimate warm-up rehearsal at 3pm in The
Front Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall. The Big Busk then kicks
off at 5pm, with Billy Bragg leading the mass sing-along
with guitar accompaniment from the Level 2 Riverside Terrace
and buskers joining in on Queen's Walk (weather permitting).
