SE1 UNITED YOUTH OSCARS
Monday 23 October
6pm-11.30pm at Namco Station, County Hall
The SE1 United youth forum is holding the first ever Youth
Oscars to celebrate the achievements of young people in
Lambeth and Southwark who have made a positive impact in
their local community by fighting social exclusion and
crime.

STORYTELLING FOR FAMILIES
Tuesday 24 to Wednesday 25 October
 at Shakespeare's Globe,  New Globe Walk
Danny Scheinmann will tell stories of exile and reunion to
mark the 350th anniversary of the re-admission of Jews into
England.    The stories will be told in the Globe's Tent for
Peace which is lined with hand-embroidered handkerchiefs
designed by children from around the world.

FAMILY ACTIVITY AFTERNOON: CREATING COPPER INSECTS
Wednesday 25 October
2pm-4.30pm at Museum of Garden History,  Lambeth Palace
Road; free
Bill Hudson will be running a free family workshop for
families with children aged 5 to 11 creating embossed
Dragonflies and Butterflies using copper foil, stick on gems
and nail varnish for an enamel effect on the copper.  There
will be a chance for participants to explore the
'curiosities' in the contemporary art exhibition
Repatriating the Ark (on until 29 October), with particular
reference to Tessa Farmer's artwork in the museum's chancel
area, 'The Court of the Fairy'.   Booking is recommended as
space is limited.

BANKSIDE - ROTHERHITHE AND BERMONDSEY LOCAL HISTORY GROUP
Wednesday 25 October
7.45pm at Time & Talents Centre, The Old Mortuary St
Marychurch Street SE16
Lecture by former Southwark local history librarian Len
Reilly, the author of Southwark: An Illustrated History
(1996) and with Geoff Marshall The Story of Bankside (2001),
both of which were awarded the Library Association's Alan
Ball prize for local history publishing.

FREE HALF TERM SWIMMING FOR KIDS AT THE OASIS
Friday 27 October
Waterloo Swimming Club's first swim together is on Friday at
10.15am. Meet in the cafe at the Oasis leisure centre, 32
Endell Street, LONDON, WC2H 9AG. Kids under 16 go for free
from 10am-2pm during half term, with splash hour in the
indoor pool from 10.30-11.30am. Adults cost �3.45. Everybody
is welcome especially competent adult swimmers who can help

FAMILY CONCERT AT MORLEY COLLEGE
Saturday 28 October
10.30am-12.30pm at Morley College, 61 Westminster Bridge
Road
Harpsichords and musical boxes in the first half and
Flamenco Dancing in the second half.  10.30-11.15 then an
interval, then 11.45-12.30.  Fun for all the family -
there's nothing like live music and dance for the very young
- babies welcome!

OCTOBER PLENTY - AUTUMN HARVEST CELEBRATION ON BANKSIDE
Sunday 29 October
12pm at Bankside Pier,  Bankside
October Plenty is an Autumn harvest celebration held
annually in Southwark. Beginning on the Bankside, by
Shakespeare's Globe, October Plenty mixes ancient seasonal
customs and theatre with contemporary festivity.  October
Plenty is a collective celebration of the seasons, weather
and food, in a public place, with access to everyone. The
event is free, and happens whatever the weather.
