LIFE IN THE ELEPHANT - BERT HARDY PICTURES: TALK AT THE LCC
Tuesday 24 January

Grace Robertson, ex-editor of Picture Post, will be talking
about the original Life in the Elephant series of
photographs by Bert Hardy featured in Picture Post in 1948. 
The 'Life in the Elephant: 1948 and 2005' exhibition has
transferred from the Cuming Museum to the London College of
Communication where it remains on view until 17 February.

WEST BERMONDSEY COMMUNITY FORUM - OPEN FORUM

This is the second WBCF planning meeting held in partnership
with the Willowbrook Centre. There will be details of new
planning applications and updates on existing applications
in the West Bermondsey area. Emma Williamson will also talk
about planning training sessions with the Willowbrook
Centre. Copies of the Community Projects Bank booklet
compiled through consultation with West Bermondsey residents
will be available.

TABARD SQUARE EXACAVATIONS: LOCAL HISTORY TALK
Wednesday 25 January
7.45pm at the Time & Talents Centre, The Old Mortuary, St
Marychurch Street, Rotherhithe SE16; small charge for
non-members

Talk by Doug Killock of Pre-Construct Archaeology which
conducted the year-long excavations at Tabard Square which
revealed buildings including a religious temple precinct �
the first to be found in Roman London. In October 2002 a
rare Roman marble inscription was found making reference to
"Londoniensi" - the Latin name for the people of London. As
there are very few Roman items including the whole of the
word 'London', this is an extremely important find. A
Rotherhithe & Bermondsey Local History Group event.

�5 TICKETS TO THE SOLDIER'S TALE AT THE OLD VIC
The Old Vic is offering �5 tickets for Lambeth and Southwark
residents to performances of The Soldier's Tale - a new
version of Stravinsky's classic tale. The production is the
first European-Iraqi collaboration of its kind. Veteran
actor Julian Glover leads a company of European and Iraqi
actors and musicians. The offer is valid during previews �
26th, 27th and 28 January (7.30pm evening show and 2.30
matinee on Saturday). You will need to book in person at the
Box Office bringing proof of home or work address. These
offers cannot be booked via the call centre.
