RICHARD II FROM THE GLOBE
Monday 5 January
7pm on BBC Four (Freeview, satellite & cable)
Another chance to see the first ever live  production
from Shakespeare's Globe on Bankside, originally
transmitted live in September 2003. Starring Mark
Rylance and directed by Tim Carroll, this all-male
interpretation aims to replicate the authentic
Shakespearean experience as accurately as possible. 
The evening is presented by Andrew Marr who is joined
by Corin Redgrave, Zoe Wanamaker and Michael Wood to
discuss all aspects of the production.
The performance will be enhanced by pressing the red
key on your digital handset.  During the play you can
explore a specially produced interactive theatre
programme for Richard II giving information about the
actors, the characters they play and behind the scenes
facts.

BOROUGH AND BANKSIDE COMMUNITY COUNCIL
Wednesday 7 January 
7pm-9.30pm at Charles Dickens School, Lant Street
Meeting for residents of Cathedrals and Chaucer wards.
The agenda includes a discussion on the 2004 Cleaner,
Greener, Safer programme and an update on policing
issues in Borough and Bankside. Emma Williamson will
give a presentation on Living Spaces, the community
enablers scheme. Councillors will also consider a
proposal to raise the perimiter fence around the
multi-sports pitch at Redman House, Lant Street.


FRIENDS OF GERALDINE MARY HARMSWORTH PARK PUBLIC
MEETING
Thursday 8 January
7pm at St Jude's Community Centre, St George's Road
The Friends of GMH Park (the park that surrounds the
Imperial War Museum) have called this meeting to
discuss Southwark Council's proposed changes to the
Ranger service which will alter the current staffing
situation in the park. The Friends fear that the
changes will result in the park being neglected but the
council insists that park rangers with ground
maintenance duties will stay on in the park. Senior
council officers are expected to be in attendance.
Users of this important local green space are
encouraged to attend to have their say. 


THE LAST SAMURAI AT THE CORONET, ELEPHANT & CASTLE
From Friday 9 January
Daily 5.30pm and 8pm at the Coronet, New Kent Road
See Tom Cruise's latest epic at the Elephant's newly
reopened cinema. The support of local residents will
help secure the future of this new community cinema
venture.

BLESSING OF THE RIVER
Sunday 11 January
2pm at the centre of London Bridge
Clergy from St Magnus the Martyr, Lower Thames Street
and Southwark Cathedral will perform this ancient
ceremony on the Sunday that commemmorates Christ's
baptism in the Jordan.


CITY SCAPES: LONDON ON BBC FOUR
Sunday 11 January
7pm on BBC Four (Freeview, satellite & cable)
This programme focuses on the architecture of London
and includes examinations of the Lloyds Building, the
Millennium Bridge, the Jubilee Line and Roehampton
Estate.
