SPEED SURGERY AT THE OLD OPERATING THEATRE

Demonstration of Victorian surgery. When operations
were performed without anaesthesia then a patient's
only relief from agony was the speed of the surgeon's
knife.

More than 10 million visits have been made to Tate
Modern on Bankside since it opened in May 2000, it was
revealed last week.
