MARCHIONESS DISASTER 20th ANNIVERSARY
Thursday 20 August
The victims and survivors of the 1989 Marchioness disaster
on the Thames near Southwark Bridge will be remembered in
prayers at Southwark Cathedral on Thursday. Choral Evensong
is at 5.30pm.

THAMES FESTIVAL GARDENING SESSIONS AT 99 UPPER GROUND
Every Thursday 6pm-8pm
Every Thursday until 17 September the Thames Festival will
be holding open gardening sessions in the garden of 99 Upper
Ground. Everyone is welcome to help grow a selection of
salads, herbs and vegetables as part of the Thames
Festival's Feast on the Bridge.

SET THE STAGE FOR RETIREMENT AT THE NATIONAL THEATRE
Friday 21 August
All day at National Theatre, South Bank; free
A day specifically for people in and approaching retirement
and providing a unique opportunity to discover the many
opportunities that retirement offers, all with a unique
theatrical twist. Taking place in and around the NT
building, there will be a variety of participatory
workshops, a chance to learn new skills, an opportunity to
take a backstage tour or enjoy the Watch this Space
activities in Theatre Square, including a participatory tea
dance. The day is free to attend but places should be booked

PLANTS TO THE PEOPLE IN SURREY ROW GARDEN

pot. Take part in a drumming workshop led by In Toto

THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY ALL-NIGHTER AT BFI IMAX
Saturday 22 August
11.59pm at BFI IMAX,  Charlie Chaplin Walk; �26, with �18
for concessions and �16 for students
Once again fans can sink back into sheer heaven - the whole
night spent watching all of Peter Jackson's Oscar-winning
films together; The Fellowship of the Ring; The Two Towers
and Return of the King. Back by popular demand and showing
courtesy of Entertainment Films, all three films will be
shown in their original theatrical 35mm versions (NB. not
IMAX or IMAX DMR); the image will fill approximately one
third of the giant screen. As usual, there will be free tea
and coffee and prize give-aways during the breaks between
the films to help everyone stay awake.
