CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT
Monday 4 December
6.30pm-9.30pm  at St Mary Magdalen,  Bermondsey Street; £10

Join Dimbleby Cancer Care as they host an evening of Carols
by Candlelight with some celebrity supporters to raise
money. Hosted by David Dimbleby with special guests and
musical performances from Farringtons Junior School choir,
there will also be lots of opportunities for guests to join
in with the festive singing. The service will conclude with
a drinks reception and mince pies and a raffle. The charity
provides practical and psychological support to people
living with cancer and to their families and carers, and is
also developing a website resource to help people find care
and support services nearest to them which is due to be
launched early 2018.

SWITCHING ON OF CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
Wednesday 6 December
6.30pm at Borough Market, 8 Southwark Street
In addition to the lights there will be from today a
surprise installation which both celebrates Christmas and is
a symbol of the spirit of Borough Market.

A CONCERT FOR WINTER: A FEAST OF SONGS AND WORDS

This year's A Concert for Winter has the title is A Feast of
Songs and Words. Featuring song, dance, poetry and
performance by Southwark's rich talent.

AN EVENING OF CHEESE
Thursday 7 December
6pm-9pm  at Borough Market, 8 Southwark Street
Cheese lovers will be treated to an entire evening filled
with talks and advice on how to put together the very best
cheese board for their Christmas parties. Borough Market has
put together a selection of original options ideal for the
festive cheeseboard; including the new BluGin from L'Ubriaco
Drunk Cheese, a mild, blue cheese soaked in gin. Created
with a mixologist, the cheese offers a creamy, subtle
saltiness with a kick of juniper on the finish - ideal
served with one of the nation's favourite spirits.

SOUTH BANK FORUM
Thursday 7 December
7pm at Coin Street Neighbourhood Centre, 108 Stamford Street
Regular meeting for South Bank and Waterloo residents
convened by Kate Hoey MP and Neil Coyle MP together with
councillors from Bishop's ward (Lambeth) and Cathedrals ward
(Southwark). Agenda includes a presentation on arrangements
for the New Year fireworks display, plans for the Lumiere
event in Waterloo in January and an update on major projects
in the area. Mulled wine and mince pies will be served.

CHRISTIAN AID CAROL SERVICE
Thursday 7 December
7pm at St John's Waterloo, 73 Waterloo Road; free; Register

The Waterloo-based national charity's carol service is at
its parish church St John's. An evening of readings and
carols with the Oasis Academy South Bank choir. Revd Lucy
Winkett will give the address.

MERRY & BITE
Friday 8 December
11.30am-3pm  at Courage Yard,  Shad Thames
13 street food traders - including Chalana Steak Wraps,
BellyNBao and Comptoir Gourmand - will be setting up in
Courage Yard. The Gin Craze will be bringing their converted
horsebox bar. The new pavilion building will host an artisan
market made up of 20 stalls Expect to find gourmet cheeses,
olives, bread, teas, preserves and sweet treats.

AFRICAN CHRISTMAS MARKET
Friday 8 to Sunday 10 December

Great Suffolk Street; free
The African Christmas Market displaying the diversity of the
continent by featuring seasonal offerings of African and
Caribbean food, warming drinks, craft, fashion and jewellery
stalls, gospel choirs, Santa's Grotto and children's
activities and Christmas lights.

CHRISTMAS EXTRAVAGANZA

12 noon-5pm at Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre,  Elephant

A Christmas toboggan slide will be in the centre on
Saturday, followed on Sunday by a personal appearance from
Father Christmas. Free mince pies and giveaways on Sunday.
