The proposals are set to retain and restore the grade II listed Lambeth Fire Station building and deliver a modern new fire station and a permanent home for the London Fire Brigade Museum. U+I also propose to build more than 300 homes, create flexible work space, provide a hotel and two new public squares with restaurants, cafes and shops. It will touch on the contradictions of the solstice and the festive time of year, from joyful pagan music to talks on seasonal affective disorder and the impact of the darker days on the mind, to the spirituality of William Blake and a look at the man who founded the Samaritans, all while winding through some of the City's most beautiful and historic sites. The story tells of their fight for human rights and health for the people they lived amongst. Set against a backdrop of slum dwellers in the first half of the last century, the circumstances of the Salters' lives can be seen in parallel with social problems of today. A new kind of poverty, a change in the national ideals of our global nation, the use of war, economic downfall, class divide, health and wealth. The Salters proved that strong moral values and integrity can walk hand-in-hand with leadership.
