MORE LONDON CHRISTMAS MARKET
Wednesday 11 to Sunday 15 December
11am-6pm at More London Riverside,  Tooley Street
More London has teamed up with Shepherds Markets to bring a
distinct local start-up feel to this year's event featuring
around 25 mainly local businesses including fashion, gifts,
food and more. And - although not originally from London -
Father Christmas and his reindeer will be dropping in for a
day visit on Thursday.

AN EVENING OF CHEESE
Wednesday 11 December
6pm-9pm  at Borough Market, 8 Southwark Street
All the market cheese-mongers will be talking about and
sampling their wares in the Green Market. Celebrating the
range of cheeses to be found at Borough Market, it will be a
great opportunity to buy your Christmas cheese while sipping
some hot cider or beer at the same time.

SOUTHWARK CYCLING SUMMIT
Wednesday 11 December
6.30pm-8.30pm at Beormund Community Centre, 177 Abbey
Street; RSVP [email protected]
Southwark Liberal Democrats have organised a summit to
discuss road safety and facilities for cyclists. The event
will bring together cyclists from across the borough for
discussions and workshops on a number of bike-related
topics. It will feature a closing speech by Cambridge MP
Julian Huppert who co-chairs the All-Party Parliamentary
Group on Cycling at Westminster. Simon Hughes MP and London
Assembly member Caroline Pidgeon AM are also expected to be
present at the summit, which is being organised by local
Liberal Democrat councillors. All local cyclists are welcome
to attend.

DOG AND POT CAROL SERVICE
Thursday 12 December
1pm-1.30pm  at The Dog and Pot,  Blackfriars Road
Join the choir of Charles Dickens Primary School to sing
carols round the Dog and Pot sculpture at the corner of
Blackfriars Road and Union Street. A collection will be
taken in aid of the school's music bursary fund.

A CONCERT FOR WINTER

Shakespeare's Globe is inviting those who live, work or
learn in its home borough of Southwark onto the famous Globe
stage for its annual community celebration. A Concert for
Winter is a festive celebration of the past, present and
future of Southwark. Schools, businesses and community
groups from the borough are invited on to the Globe stage to
perform songs, music, poetry, storytelling and dance,
inspired by this year's theme of Regeneration and Renewal.
Eight groups representing the diversity and variety that
Southwark has to offer will take to the stage to present
their own choice of performance relating to this year's
theme. Performances will be from Spa School, a special
school for students with autistic spectrum disorders,
Crossways Community Mental Health Centre in Peckham, Dulwich
Wood Nursery School, The Blackfriars Nightingales singing
group from Blackfriars Settlement older peoples' services,
Michael Faraday Primary School, Townsend Primary School and
Charles Dickens Primary School and will be joined by staff
from Shakespeare's Globe and students from Rutgers, the
State University of New Jersey, forming the Globe Choir.

IMAGINING SOUTHWARK

The Mayor of Southwark invites you to an evening of film and
discussion. An inspiring and thought-provoking programme of
Southwark films, including SODIQ � an award-winning
documentary by Peckham's Adeyemi Michael (Grierson Sky
Atlantic Best Student Documentary 2013). In 2008 Sodiq
Adebayo dreamt of going to university and becoming a doctor.
Four years later he was on trial for the murder of Sylvester
Akapalara and is today serving a 30-year prison sentence.
Director Adeyemi having a unique bond with Sodiq set up a
football team on their council estate in Peckham, and made a
film in 2008 celebrating Sodiq's dream of studying medicine.
At the time he said he didn't want to end up in jail. This
new film revisits the past and is all about turning points
and the choices we make. Followed by a public conversation
with filmmaker Adeyemi, Barry and Margaret Mizen, and His
Honour Judge Roger Chapple, the Recorder of Southwark. This
is a free event with a voluntary collection for the Mayor of
Southwark's Charity Appeal for Evelina London Children's
Hospital.

ROCKIN AROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE

A special festive family event to celebrate the park's
recent renovation. Father Christmas will in residence in his
Golden Grotto and there will be live music from The Singing
Elves performing seasonal songs around a twinkling tree. Hot

HOTEL ELEPHANT SHOP LAUNCH

6pm-9pm  at Hotel Elephant, 18 Newington Causeway; free
Hotel Elephant Gallery is is launching a new shop and coffee
bar on Newington Causeway. In this new space Hotel Elephant
Gallery will provide a platform and shop window for
Southwark designer-makers and artists, giving them the
opportunity to sell their work in their neighbourhood. The
shop will be open daily, where visitors can enjoy a coffee,
browse and purchase artworks. This intimate space will host
a range of events catering for the local residents, students
and newcomers to the area; complimenting and running
alongside the programme of exhibitions and events held in
Hotel Elephant's 15,000sqft gallery, event & hireable space,
also located on Newington Causeway. Hotel Elephant Gallery
will provide training opportunities for young people with an
interest in pursuing higher education or a career in the
arts. This Friday Hotel Elephant is inviting visitors to
join them for a drink, enjoy some music and celebrate arts
and culture in Southwark.

GALLERY SINGERS CHRISTMAS CONCERT
Friday 13 December
7pm at St John's Waterloo, 73 Waterloo Road; �6 in advance;
�8 on the door
The Gallery Singers present an evening Christmas cheer
including festive performance pieces and audience
participation. The singers are supporting Save The
Children's Christmas Jumper Day and all choir members will
be wearing their finest seasonal jumpers to the concert and
donating �1 to the charity. Audience members are encouraged
to dress likewise and there will be a prize for the best
Christmas jumper. There will be donation buckets at the
concert for Save the Children and all profits from ticket
sales will be going to Save the Children too.
