RIVERSIDE ACCESSIBILITY UPDATE
Monday 7 November
4pm-8pm  at Bankside Community Space, 18 Great Guildford
Street
Southwark Council will be hosting a drop in session for
businesses and residents interested in the works being
undertaken to improve accessibility along the Thames Path in
time for the Olympics and Paralympics.

BOROUGH & BANKSIDE COMMUNITY COUNCIL
Monday 7 November
7pm at Charles Dickens Primary School,  Toulmin Street
Regular meeting for residents of Cathedrals and Chaucer
wards. Learn about local projects and talk to your
councillors and neighbours. Agenda includes the launch of
the next round of Cleaner Greener Safer funding. There will
also be presentations on plans to upgrade the Thames Path
along Bankside in time for the Olympics, as well as
proposals to 'dress' local streets with special decorations
during the summer of 2012.

BERMONDSEY WALK WITH OLD MAPS
Tuesday 8 November

Walk with old maps round the former leather-making district,
that is also one of the oldest neighbourhoods in London.
Explore a landscape of old industrial buildings, even older
houses and pockets of open space with stories to tell. You
will be reminded of all the associated trades to the making
of leather; the woolstaplers and fellmongers amongst them.
The settlement grew around an ancient religious foundation
that in 1399 became Bermondsey Abbey. This has long gone but
this walk traces where it was and demonstrates how it still
influences the topography.

Therapists is inviting members of the public and community
of Southwark to celebrate Occupational Therapy (OT) week.
Drop in to their offices on Borough High Street to celebrate
the profession and its contributions to the health and
wellbeing of people of all ages. You can learn more about
the profession, receive advice on how an Occupational
Therapist may be able to assist you with your needs for
daily living, and visit the headquarters of the British
Association and College of Occupational Therapists.

BERMONDSEY NEIGHBOURHOOD FORUM PUBLIC MEETING
Wednesday 9 November
7pm at The Roundhouse,  Cardinal Bourne Street
In April Bermondsey was named as one of the 'front runner'
communities to serve as a test bed for neighbourhood
planning under provisions set out in the Government's
Localism Bill. Seven months later, Bermondsey Neighbourhood
Forum has arranged two (identical) meetings to give people
the chance to get an update on the work that has been
carried out so far. The Bermondsey Neighbourhood Forum area
is bounded by the river in the north, Borough High Street,
Great Dover Street and Harper Road in the west, New Kent
Road in the south and Tower Bridge Road in the east.

OLD CLEM!: BLOW THE FIRE, BLOW THE FIRE

Talk by Paul Cowdell. 23 November is St Clement's day. The
patron saint of blacksmiths, his day was celebrated by
processions, dinners, effigies, poetry and appeals for
money. The day was celebrated at village forges and � with
rather more rowdiness � at the dockyard smithies. It also
merged with similar celebrations two days later for St
Catherine, the patron saint of rope makers. This talk will
look at the saints and their celebrations, taking in along
the way Dickens, doles, the docks and dynamite.

CLASSICS WITH MY BABY: SHALL WE DANCE?
Friday 11 November
10.30am (eat cake and mingle from 10am_ at St Mary Magdalen,
Bermondsey Street; �7 for adults; children come free
Put on your dancing shoes and come for a twirl across the
globe with Amanda (classical guitar) and Miaomiao (piano).
From Peruvian folk dance to Chinese court dance, South
American tango to Chopin waltzes. A classical music concert
series for babies and toddlers performed by local mums and
award-winning international artists Miaomiao Yu and Philippa
Mo. Studies show classical music can bring tremendous
benefits to young children, but our inspiration is simply to
bring adults and kids of all ages together for a lively
morning of exceptional music.

KING'S COLLEGE REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY
Friday 11 November
10.50am-11.05am  at Guy's Memorial Arch, Guy's Hospital,

A remembrance ceremony at the Guy�s Memorial Arch (opposite
entrance to the Hodgkin Building). This will include prayers
for peace, the laying of wreaths, the sounding of the Last
Post & Reveille and the two minutes� silence.

LORD MAYOR'S SHOW FIREWORKS DISPLAY
Saturday 12 November
5pm; free
To mark the end of the Lord Mayor's Show in the City of
London and the beginning of a new mayoral year, the 684th
Lord Mayor will start a magnificent firework display on the
river Thames. The display is best viewed from the South Bank
between Waterloo Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge. It takes a
team of eight pyrotechnicians two days to set up more than
half a tonne of giant fireworks, some of which shoot over
600ft into the sky before exploding.

REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY AT BOROUGH WAR MEMORIAL
Sunday 13 November
10.50am at Borough War Memorial,  Borough High Street
Annual observance of the two minute silence in memory of the
dead of the two World Wars. St George the Martyr and
Precious Blood clergy lead short outdoor service at the
memorial outside the Slug & Lettuce in Borough High Street.
Followed by laying of wreaths by Borough organisations. All
welcome.

ACT OF REMEMBRANCE AT SOVIET WAR MEMORIAL
Sunday 13 November
12.30pm at Soviet War Memorial, Geraldine Mary Harmsworth
Park,  Lambeth Road
The Mayor of Southwark, Cllr Lorraine Lauder, together with
representatives from the embassies of several former Soviet
republics, British Second World War veterans and other
individuals and organisations supporting the SMTF will lay
wreaths at the Soviet War Memorial during an Act of
Remembrance. The short ceremony will include brief addresses
from key participants, the sounding of the Last Post and a
two minute silence.

THE HISTORY OF ELEPHANT & CASTLE: TALK BY STEPHEN HUMPHREY
