DR BIKE IN WATERLOO
Wednesday 6 July
5.30pm-7.30pm  at James Clerk Maxwell Building, 57 Waterloo
Road; free
Get a free basic check-up for your bicycle courtesy of
Lambeth's sustainable travel team. The event is held in the
piazza outside the King's College building next to BFI IMAX.
There will also be an HGV awareness session so you can see
the view from the driver's cab and the Metropolitan Police
Cycle Taskforce will be security marking bikes for free if
you haven't already had it done.

THE ARCHAEOLOGY OF SOUTHWARK AND ITS CATHEDRAL

Join the Thames Discovery Programme to discover more about
this fascinating building and the history and archaeology of
the local area. There will also be the opportunity to see
some photography by the Foreshore Recording and Observation
Group Photo Team and to join in with photo activities around
the building. The Middlesex and Surrey Archaeology Dowsers
will also be working in the South Churchyard, examining the
area where the chapel of St Mary Magdalene once stood. There
will also be displays about the work of the Thames Discovery
Programme and artefacts from the collections of the Museum
of London.

Council Assembly is the meeting of all 63 Southwark
councillors, chaired by the Mayor. These meetings will in
future be held at venues around the borough rather than at
the town hall. This meeting will incorporate a themed debate
on the subject of sports and young people.

YOUR HOUSING SERVICE, YOUR CHOICE - CONSULTATION MEETING
Thursday 7 July
6.30pm-8pm  at 160 Tooley Street
Southwark Council consultation meeting on plans to reduce
the number of area housing offices. Through "your service,
your choice" the council has begun a conversation with
residents on a number of key housing issues, including the
closure of the Borough & Bankside area housing office in
Long Lane and the Bermondsey One Stop Shop in Spa Road.
Borough & Bankside residents will in future need to visit
Walworth One Stop Shop for face-to-face meetings with
housing officers. Bermondsey residents would be provided for
at Abbeyfield Road SE16.

FUTURE OF SOUTHWARK'S LIBRARIES: PUBLIC MEETING
Thursday 7 July
7pm-8pm at John Harvard Library, 211 Borough High Street
Southwark residents and library users are being asked their
views on the library service during a borough-wide
consultation. It's part of a review to establish how
Southwark Council can maintain a high quality library
service, fit for the 21st century, in the face of
unprecedented budget cuts. Southwark Council is making
savings of nearly �400,000 in its library service over the
next three years. All of these meetings are open to the
public and will give local people an opportunity to put
forward their views about the library service and make
suggestions about how savings could be achieved. There is no
need to book your place in advance.

RIVERSIDE WARD SAFER NEIGHBOURHOODS MEETING

BERMONDSEY'S BLITZ GUIDED WALK
Saturday 9 July
11am at Bermondsey Underground Station,  Jamaica Road; �8
Join Neil Bright to explore the tragedy and heroism of one
of London's most heavily bombed boroughs. Hear how
Bermondsey's popular mayor was killed on the heaviest night
of the Blitz and how a police station cleaner won the
British Empire Medal. Learn about air-raid shelter life with
evidence of these shelters 70 years on. Find out about the
near destruction of Surrey Docks and the aftermath of this.
Walk finishes at London Bridge approx 1.45pm.

PEACE DAY AT TABARD GARDENS

Third annual community event in memory of local teenager
David Idowu - who was fatally wounded in the gardens - and
other young people who have died through violent crime. At
12 noon the David Idowu memorial bench will be unveiled. The
afternoon's programme includes music, dancers, singers,
poets and speakers.

Part of the Waterloo Festival at St John's. Featuring
Waterloo Canticle 1 by Richard Chew - Festival commission
and world premiere sung by ensemble wc2e, a setting of
Isaiah Ch 2 v.4 in the King James Version. Preacher: Bishop
Dinis Sengulane, Bishop of Lebombo and the creator of the
'Swords into Ploughshares' initiative following the end of
the Mozambique civil war.

CAPITAL AGE FESTIVAL ON THE SOUTH BANK

2pm-6pm  at Bernie Spain Gardens,  Upper Ground
London's largest cultural festival celebrating older
artists. The festival welcomes Londoners of all ages to join
in with the fun while enjoying the sun. In 2011 Capital Age
Festival returns to its traditional home at Bernie Spain
Gardens as part of Coin Street Festival. The event will
feature a wide range of activities and entertainment
including live music, street theatre, information stalls and
the ever popular tea tent. The organisers also promise a few
extra surprises over the afternoon. This year's festival
will include headline performances by Entelechy Arts, Green
Candle Senior Dancers, The Hoxton Singers, Leap of Faith,
Spare Tyre, Will Gaines, Swing High All Stars and more.
