DIDGES ON THE BRIDGES: CITY OF LONDON FESTIVAL
Tuesday 28 June
8.30am on Thames bridges; free
Traditionally created by termites hollowing out the branches
of eucalyptus trees, five didjeridu players give this
ancient aboriginal wind instrument a special early morning
appearance in London. Listen out for Blackfriars Didge,
Millennium Didge, London Didge, Southwark Didge and Tower
Didge...

FUTURE OF SOUTHWARK'S LIBRARIES: PUBLIC MEETING
Wednesday 29 June
2pm-3pm  at East Street Library, 168-170 Old Kent Road
Southwark residents and library users are being asked their
views on the library service during a borough-wide
consultation. It's part of a review to establish how
Southwark Council can maintain a high quality library
service, fit for the 21st century, in the face of
unprecedented budget cuts. Southwark Council is making
savings of nearly £400,000 in its library service over the
next three years. All of these meetings are open to the
public and will give local people an opportunity to put
forward their views about the library service and make
suggestions about how savings could be achieved. There is no
need to book your place in advance.

WAKA ON THE THAMES: MAORI WAR CANOE

DESIGN OVERTIME: SUMMER PARTY

Stroll through the allegorical garden of delight at the
Design Museum's Summer Party. Cucumber in crustless white

INTERNATIONAL BRIGADES COMMEMORATION AT JUBILEE GARDENS

Annual International Brigade Memorial Trust commemoration
for the Spanish Civil War republican volunteers from Britain
and Ireland. Music, speeches and wreath-laying. The memorial
has been in Jubilee Gardens since 1985.

ingredients through demonstrations and unique combinations

invited to enter exhibits for a series of craft and cookery
classes revolving around ingredients found at Borough
Market, to be judged by a panel of traders.

LEAR 1864: TRAIL OF TEARS: OPEN-AIR THEATRE AT THE SCOOP

Full Tilt, the practice-led research theatre company
attached to Bath Spa University, presents Shakespeare's
tragedy relocated to the American Civil War. It is 1864,
during the American Civil War, and newly retired General
Lear decides to divide his mammoth estate, once belonging to
the Navajo Nation, amongst his three daughters. This act
sets in motion a great storm of truth, consequences,
dispossession, and loss which Lear must face head on.
Haunted by his actions and his horrific past made present -
Lear discovers a painful truth among the natives he once
deceived.
