THAMES TUNNEL PUBLIC CONSULTATION AT CITY HALL
Monday 13 & Tuesday 14 December
10am-8pm at City Hall,  The Queen's Walk
Review the plans for a new tunnel under the river and let
Thames Water know your views. Thames Water wants to use the
Alfred Salter Playground in Druid Street for two years while
the tunnel is built. King's Stairs Gardens would also be
seriously affected. Specialists from the project team will
be on hand to answer any questions you may have. 
At 6.30pm on Tuesday  members of the Save King's Stairs
Gardens Action Group will be joined by campaigners from
other greenfield sites affected by Thames Water's plans for
a final rally.

MAYOR OF LONDON'S CAROL SERVICE
Monday 13 December
7pm at Southwark Cathedral,  London Bridge
Members of the public are welcome to join Greater London
Authority staff and representatives from different
businesses, community organisations and faith groups. This
year focuses on young people and their positive contribution
to the community to which they live, with young readers from
a variety of organisations such as the Scouts, Girl Guides,
Sea Cadets and Cadet Warrant Officers giving readings.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL: FREE OPEN-AIR THEATRE BY THE RIVER

Free open-air theatre performances on the riverside close to
Tower Bridge. This Christmas Ebenezer Scrooge will be
visited by three spirits. Will they convince him to change
his miserly ways? The Pantaloons put their unique spin on
this family favourite festive tale with larger-than-life
characters, puppetry and Victorian carols. The Pantaloons,
who have brought their summer Shakespeare productions to The
Scoop for several years, return to present their first
production by a writer other than the Bard.

A STORY OF WATERLOO - LOCAL HISTORY AUDIOVISUAL PRESENTATION

7.30pm (doors open 7pm) at Coin Street Neighbourhood Centre,
108 Stamford Street; free
Learn about the history of the area from Roman times up to
the beginning of the Second World War. Based, from 1900, on
residents' and local workers' recorded memories of life in
the area.� Originally made by Mike Bruce in the 1970s as a
tape slide show, it has been adapted for current technology
with the help of Jack Thurston who made 'The Lambeth Estate:
A Village on a Street'.

LARGACYTL SHUFFLE: GUIDED WALK FROM BANKSIDE TO CAMBERWELL

Meet 12 noon at turbine hall entrance to Tate Modern; free
Join CoolTan Arts for a fun guided cultural walk from Tate
Modern to the Maudsley Hospital using art, humour and
history to de-stigmatise mental distress along the way.

A re-telling of the nativity by Michael Morpurgo, Prunella
Scales and Timothy West. Carols sung by Coope Boyes and
Simpson, Fi Fraser, Jo Freya and Georgina Boyes. This
one-off concert, in support of Farms for City Children, is
based on Michael Morpurgo's book On Angel Wings which tells
the Christmas story through the eyes of a young shepherd
boy.

SOUTHWARK CATHEDRAL CAROL SERVICE

6.30pm at Southwark Cathedral,  London Bridge
This year the Cathedral Carol Services are based on the
nativity story as told in St Luke's Gospel - so there will
be plenty of angels and shepherds but no kings. The Great
Choir of the Cathedral (boys, girls and men) will be singing
and all will be done by candlelight. Come early to get a
seat. The service will be repeated on 22 December. This
service is not suitable for children (see Building the Crib
service, Christmas Eve for one that is).
