THE ELEPHANT PROJECT
Monday 1 to Friday 12 November
at Unit 215, Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre,  Elephant
and Castle
A group of artists and friends have moved into unit 215 of
the shopping centre. They will make work about the Elephant
under the roof of the Elephant. The project is a celebration
of the Elephant's history and a community leading up to an
intense programme of regeneration. The functional multi
purpose space will act as a studio/ workshop/ drop in area
welcoming all.

KING'S REACH TOWER PUBLIC EXHIBITION
Wednesday 3 & Thursday 4 November
Wed 5pm-8pm; Thu 3pm-6pm at Unit 9, Milroy Walk, Stamford
Street
CIT Group will be sharing their initial proposals to
redevelop King's Reach Tower and Milroy Walk at a public
exhibition. CIT recently appointed KPF architects to draw up
proposals for the redevelopment of the site.

ROTOR
Wednesday 3 to Sunday 14 November
Wed-Fri 5pm-9pm; Sat & Sun 2pm-6pm at Siobhan Davies
Studios, 85 St George's Road; �12 (conc �6)
ROTOR features an ensemble of performances, sound
installations and artworks, by award-winning artists, based
on ideas generated by dance. The trigger for ROTOR is a new
dance work (The Score) by Siobhan Davies which has been
filmed from above and its patterns have in turn created a
score for nine invited artists - including a composer, poet,
ceramicist, photographer, playwright and visual artists - to
respond to through their own artform.

SOUTHWARK SAVE OUR SERVICES PUBLIC MEETING

Southwark Save Our Services is a coalition of community
organisations, local trade unionists, students and user
groups that are preparing to fight the Government-imposed
cuts to public services. Speakers include Jeremy Dear,
general secretary of the National Union of Journalists, and
Ian Leahair of the Fire Brigades' Union.

REAL FOOD MARKET ON THE SOUTH BANK
Friday 5 to Sunday 7 November

On the first weekend of each month 40 selected Real Food
Festival producers come to the South Bank bringing Londoners
the opportunity to buy great quality, fresh produce and
ingredients at affordable prices, direct from the producer.
The local community will have a regular place to come and
buy seasonal, nutritionally-dense real food to take home and
cook with.

THE HIDDEN GARDENS OF SOUTHWARK - FREE GUIDED WALK

The Get Walking Keep Walking South London team is offering a
guided walk to explore the hidden gardens of Southwark.
Participants will be offered free pedometers, motivational
material and refreshments at a nearby cafe. Get Walking Keep
Walking is an urban walking�project developed by the
Ramblers to encourage inner-city residents to walk more

RAC BRIGHTON TO LONDON FUTURE CAR CHALLENGE
Saturday 6 November
Cars arrive at Pall Mall between 11.15am and 12.30pm
The RAC Brighton to London Future Car Challenge is open to
the latest electric, hybrid and low-emission passenger cars
and light commercial vehicles. Trophies will be awarded in
different categories for vehicles judged to have made the
least energy impact during the 60-mile Brighton to London
run. Many of the 64 vehicles taking part will be seen on UK
roads for the first time. This inaugural Royal Automobile
Club event is a very public showcase for low-energy
vehicles. The event follows the route of the London to
Brighton Veteran Car Run in reverse, arriving in SE1 via
Kennington Road and crossing Westminster Bridge.

THAMES TUNNEL PUBLIC CONSULTATION
Saturday 6 November
10am-4pm  at Park Plaza Riverbank, 18 Albert Embankment
At the request of local councillor Mark Harrison, Thames
Water has organised an additional public consultation event
for their plans for the Thames Tunnel and its proposed
construction site on the Albert Embankment foreshore. The
venue is close to two combined sewer overflows, adjacent to
Vauxhall Bridge, which the Thames Tunnel needs to intercept.
Visitors to the exhibition will be able to ask the project
team about any proposed site or any of the tunnel route
options.

LONDON TO BRIGHTON VETERAN CAR RUN
Sunday 7 November
Cars pass through Lambeth between 7am and 9am 
See 500+ veteran cars - up to 114 years old - pass through
the streets of North Lambeth. A celebration of the
Emancipation Run held in 1896. Thirty vehicles travelled the
60-miles from London to Brighton to mark the passing into
law of the Light Locomotives Act which raised the speed
limit from 4mph to 14mph and did away with the requirement
for a person to walk in front of a vehicle waving a red flag
to warn other road users. The first reenactment was in 1927
and the LBVCR has been held every year except during World
War II and in 1947 due to fuel rationing. Route crosses
Westminster Bridge then via Westminster Bridge Road and
Kennington Road.

PAUL BOATENG PREACHES AT STANDING UP FOR SOUTHWARK EVENSONG
Sunday 7 November
3pm at Southwark Cathedral,  London Bridge
'Standing up for Southwark' is an initiative by the
Metropolitan Police with the church and local faith
community in Southwark to challenge violence in our
community. The preacher at Choral Evensong will be former
Labour MP Lord Boateng and the service will conclude with an
act of commitment.

COMMUNITY FILM CLUB SCREENING
MOSQUE: THE STORY OF ISLAM IN SOUTHWARK
Monday 8 November
7pm (refreshments from 6.30pm) at Tate Modern,  Bankside;
free; to members
This film looks into the culture of Islam in this
ultra-diverse borough, working with three Muslim communities
in particular - Somali, Nigerian and Turkish. Written and
narrated by Sadiq Hoque. Directed by Chris Haydon. A
Community TV Trust production funded by Safer Southwark
Partnership. The screening will be accompanied by a
discussion with a panel including a local Imam, Southwark
police borough commander Wayne Chance and Simon Hughes MP.
Membership of the Community Film Club is aimed at residents

SE1 SUPPORT GROUP FOR MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Waterloo Community Coalition (WaCoCo) has received a
Grassroots grant to set up a FREE support group for
management committee members of tenants and residents
associations, tenant management organisations or housing
co-ops, please join us. We will meet 6 times to share our
experiences, knowledge and contacts and plan two fun days.
Our first meeting is on 9th November, 6.15pm at Cooper Close
