HANDEL'S MESSIAH AT ST GEORGE'S CATHEDRAL
Monday 19 April
7.30pm at St George's Cathedral, Lambeth Road; �12 (conc

Situation Opera and their 10.10 Ensemble, a small group of
professional singers and players using period and original
instruments, will be producing a smaller and more intimate
version of this much loved oratorio than usual, much closer
that the original first performance in Dublin in 1742. This
should be a fascinating and enjoyable evening of beautiful
music.

LAUNCH OF TEENAGE JOB CLUB AT DOWNSIDE FISHER YOUTH CLUB
Tuesday 20 April
6.30pm-8.30pm  at Downside Fisher Youth Club, Coxson Place,

The Downside Fisher Youth Club is starting a Teenage Job
Club to put local young people aged 15-19 on the fast track
to a job and a career. Membership is free to the first 50
young people at the launch party.

LOCAL FILM SCREENING AT ASSOCIATION OF WATERLOO GROUPS AGM

has been brought up to date by film producer Jack Thurston
who made the hit film The Lambeth Estate: A Village on a

LAMBETH SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT HUSTINGS MEETING
Tuesday 20 April
7.30pm at Stockwell Community Resource Centre, 1 Studley
Road SW4
At the meeting members of Lambeth Cyclists will be
questioning the parties standing for Lambeth Council over
their policies on sustainable transport. 
They will also be asking the representatives to sign up to a
'manifesto' of polices all aimed at making Lambeth becomes a
truly cycle friendly borough. 


SILVER SE1 BIKE RIDE WITH SOUTHWARK CYCLISTS
Wednesday 21 April
10am-1pm  at Potters Fields Park, Tooley Street; free
Meet outside the wooden cafe for a stopping bike ride that
covers every possible inch of the SE1 postcode. Part of
Southwark's Silver Festival for older people. Open to all.

AURICULA DAY AT GARDEN MUSEUM
Wednesday 21 April
10.30am-5pm  at Garden Museum,  Lambeth Palace Road; Free

Designed by the Dowager Marchioness of Salisbury, the Garden
Museum's Auricula Theatre will once again take centre stage,
dressed with a range of exquisite show auriculas. Specialist
nursery Pops Plants will be selling plants and offering
advice on their care and cultivation. Lady Salisbury will
also give a talk on the history of auriculas.

MINUTES FROM MORLEY: WEEKLY LOCAL HISTORY COURSE
Wednesdays 14 April to 9 June
2pm at Morley College, Westminster Bridge Road 
This mainly classroom based (with short walks) course for
adults discusses some of the people and places who made
their mark around SE1. No knowledge is assumed but there is
time to share learners own experiences. What were Winchester
Geese? Who was Samuel Morley? What's the connection between
an Ivy League College and a Lambeth church? For more details

SHAKESPEARE HAPPENS: A MARATHON AT THE SCOOP
Friday 23 to Sunday 25 April
10am-7pm at The Scoop,  More London Riverside; free
A three-day marathon of twelve Shakespearean staged readings
to celebrate the Bard's birthday and bring Shakespeare
performed by a team of professional actors and directors to
audiences free of charge. They will explore the Roman and
History plays, giving audiences insight into the rehearsal
process in a performance style influenced by street theatre
and interactive performance.

THE FESTIVAL OF DIVERSE CITIES AT BOROUGH MARKET

Borough Market is joining with the Government of Catalonia
for a special event to celebrate St George's Day. The
festival celebrates the fact that England and Catalonia
share a patron saint - St George. The event will also mark
the anniversary of the deaths of Shakespeare and Cervantes,
highlight World Book Day and celebrate the work of Josep Pla
- a Catalan journalist and popular writer whose prose is
widely acknowledged as the finest in contemporary Catalan
literature.

'BRIGHT UNCONQUERED SONS': FRAGMENTS FROM SHAKESPEARE

Gallery is hosting a 45 mins performance by Part of the
Fever of some of the bard's best known verse -as universal
and relevant to today's audiences as it was in its day. Come

of extracts from Shakespeare, music and physical movement in
an exploration of love, loss and friendship amongst five
young people in 21st Century England.

buildings from the first decade of the 21st Century. Some

FORUM MINI: ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL FOR AGES 6-12

Forum Mini, created and run by architects, is a one day
school that opens the minds of children to architectural
designing. The day gives first hand design experience in a
workshop setting at the architects' own studio in Southwark.
The school day is on a Saturday and takes the children from
first ideas all the way to presentation, through drawing,
team work and model-making. For each child, the school day
expands awareness of our built-environment, gives a sense of
achievement and builds self-confidence. For ages 6-12.

TALES FROM THE RIVERBANK: BERMONDSEY TO WATERLOO WALK

11am at Bermondsey Underground Station,  Jamaica Road; �5
Guided walk along the Thames Path on the south bank of the
river. Your guide Aly Mir will briefly introduce many of the
sites along the way including Tower Bridge, City Hall, HMS
Belfast, the Golden Hinde replica, Shakespeare's Globe, Tate
Modern and the London Eye. This walk lasts about 2 hours and
ends near Waterloo tube station.

KORUSO! SOUTHWARK COMMUNITY CHOIR AT ROYAL FESTIVAL HALL

12.30pm at Level 2 Central Bar, Royal Festival Hall,
Belvedere Road; free
Koruso! began in 2008 as a Southwark Council-led initiative
to develop community cohesion. It has since grown from a
small choral group to a self-run community choir with a
wide-ranging repertoire. Koruso now has 50 members, all from
Southwark, who sing in Bass, Tenor, Soprano and Alto
sections. The programme will be a rich cross cultural mix of
music from South Africa, Macedonia, Jamaica, America,
Greece, and the UK. All but one piece of music will be
performed in 4-part harmonies.

HITLER'S WILL: IN CONVERSATION WITH HERMI ROTHMAN
