RECYCLING WORKSHOP FOR SOUTHWARK RESIDENTS

THE BIG SMOKE: FILMS FROM A LOST LONDON 1896-1945
COMMUNITY FILM CLUB AT TATE MODERN
Monday 9 November
7pm (refreshments from 6.30pm) at Starr Auditorium, Tate
Modern,  Bankside; free
Experience London life in a bygone age, from the bustle of
the Victorian commute to the ordeal of the Blitz, with this
programme of silent films from the BFI National Archive -
brought to dazzling life with a newly-commissioned score and
featuring a selection of treasures from the Imperial War
Museum and London's Screen Archives. Highlights of the
programme include Blackfriars Bridge (1896), an
extraordinary glimpse of Victorians travelling to work by
horse-drawn tram and on foot at an enviably elegant pace. 
Membership of the Community Film Club is aimed at those
living in Southwark and Lambeth. To become a member (it's

SHAD THAMES RESIDENTS' ASSOCIATION OPEN MEETING
Monday 9 November
7.30pm-9.30pm at The Bridge House, 218 Tower Bridge Road
Open meeting for residents of the area inside the boundaries
of London Bridge/Tooley Street (north side)/Shad Thames/the
River Thames). Come and meet Des Waters, Head of Public
Realm at Southwark Council who will talk about the ongoing
programme of maintenance work in the Shad Thames area, and
will listen to suggestions from local residents. Cllr Eliza
Mann will talk about the work of the licensing committee.

REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY AT GUY'S HOSPITAL
Wednesday 11 November
10.50am-11.05am  at Memorial Arch, Guy's Hospital,  Great
Maze Pond
The ceremony will include prayers for peace, the laying of
wreaths, the sounding of the Last Post and Reveille, and the
two minutes silence.

CEREMONY OF REMEMBRANCE AT IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM

The Last Post and Reveille sounded by a member of The Band
of The Brigade of Gurkhas. This will be followed by readings
from Forgotten Voices of the Somme by its author, Joshua
Levine.

LORD MAYOR'S SHOW FIREWORKS ON THE THAMES
Saturday 14 November
5pm on River Thames between Waterloo & Blackfriars; free
To mark the end of the Lord Mayor's Show in the City of
London and the beginning of a new mayoral year, the 682nd
Lord Mayor will start a magnificent firework display on the
river Thames. The display is best viewed from the South Bank
between Waterloo Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge It takes a
team of eight pyrotechnicians two days to set up more than
half a tonne of giant fireworks, some of which shoot over
600ft into the sky before exploding.
During the Lord Mayor's Show Parade look out for the
fire-breathing dragon created by pupils at Bermondsey's City
of London Academy.

THE SE1 RIDE: TOUR THE SE1 BORDERS WITH SOUTHWARK CYCLISTS
Sunday 15 November
Meet 10am at Southwark Needle,  London Bridge; free
Second in a new series of Southwark Cyclists bike rides
exploring the boundaries of local postal areas. Bring your
bike to Southwark Needle at 10am for a painstakingly slow
exploration round the SE1 border. After lunch the ride will
visit the 56A Crampton Street SE17 bike co-op and whole food
shop.

LONDON COUNCILS VOLUNTARY SECTOR GRANTS CONSULTATION MEETING
